The Forest of People -Sculpting New Stories
Workshop for children by Hanna Boal
Saturday April 25th 2 - 5pm
The workshop
Join us for an engaging, hands-on art workshop where we’ll create small human figures using found objects and papier-mâché.
Sculpt with found objects
Using materials from the scrap space such as vessels, boxes, tubes, sticks, and more, we will build the body structures of our figures. We will create new forms by connecting reclaimed found objects.
Papier-Mâché Magic
We will layer found papers from books, music sheets, lists, newspapers, wrapping paper, bus tickets, dress patterns and other text-filled material over our forms to create a smooth outer surface as well as allowing us to sculpt additional features and character to our figures.
The beauty of reused objects and text- sculpting new stories
The objects and papers we seek out and use already carry their own histories: a bottle you drank from after running a marathon, keys from a deconstructed piano, a tube from a life-saving medication, wrapping paper from celebrations, newsprint from another day, books donated from flood-damaged libraries. Together we’ll explore how these forms and materials can be transformed into creative experiences and imaginative new forms to help us tell new stories.
Ages 6-16 are welcome, you can accompany your child or if they are confident then they can be left. We are insured and DBS checked.
Let’s create new stories from forgotten materials.
Bring your ideas to life!
